Whoops. This is what I get for going out of order. I touch on this in day 91…and I think I touched on this last week, but let’s delve back into how I have come to find my authentic sense of style.
I am not a fashionista. I never have been and I never will be. It just seems like too much work! But I don’t dress like a slouch. Or super whimsical. I’m in the solid business casual category. I spend most of my time at work, so most of my clothing is stuff that I wear for work. I don’t have the time, energy, or resources to have two completely different wardrobes. Plus, if I have to go somewhere after work, I’m not afraid to rock good ‘ole business casual. Sign me up for cardigans, tank tops, a good skirt or pants, and my commuter running shoes.
My work attire revolves around dresses, cardigans, and blazers. I have to look professional and put together most days and ready to be in meetings with our top executives. I’ve found that you can dress things up a bit with a good pair of shoes…and you can look feminine and professional in a nice dress, perhaps with a cardigan, and accessorize with a big necklace or another statement piece of jewelery. I don’t have too many options, I prefer to keep the number of outfits down to 1-2 weeks worth. That way there aren’t too many decisions to make in the morning. Plus, then I can ensure that I only keep around outfits that I truly like.
On weekends I usually wear jeans or workout clothes. If I need to dress my jeans up, I can pull out one of the tops I wear for work, perhaps a cardigan. I’m all about looking presentable but also being comfortable. For me, looking pulled together and having my contacts in makes me feel like I’m putting my best foot forward and looking my best. And at the end of the day, isn’t that what we all want?
